Air2LAN and MeshNetworks Announce First Mobile Broadband Customer Trial
MeshNetworks’ Technology Enables Air2LAN to Offer Mobile Internet Services to its Customers

Jackson, MS. – February 13, 2002- Air2LAN and MeshNetworks, Inc., today announced their plans to launch a customer trial of MeshNetworks’ mobile broadband networking system in Jackson, MS. This agreement represents the first phase in a plan to provide all of Air2LAN’s customers with enhanced data, voice and video connectivity.

Currently Air2LAN offers fixed-wireless broadband services utilizing the license-exempt spectrum, and wireless local area networks in conference rooms and campus environments utilizing the 802.11 (Wi-Fi) standard. The addition of MeshNetworks’ Multi-Hopping™ ad hoc peer-to-peer networking technology will give Air2LAN subscribers a truly mobile connection on handheld devices, such as PDAs or the newly introduced tablet PCs. The company will initially deploy MeshNetworks’ products in its home market of Jackson, MS, with follow-on deployments planned for New Orleans, Montgomery, and Houston.

MeshNetworks’ mobile broadband network supports Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video, position location, and data services. The Company has successfully interoperated its wide area mobile network solution with industry standard 802.11 wireless LAN networks. Both service providers and users can now experience a seamless broadband connection in their office, home and car.

In addition to its mobile broadband solution, MeshNetworks will provide MeshLAN™ software to Air2LAN, which significantly enhances the range and robustness of industry standard 802.11 networks. MeshLAN software transforms wireless LAN cards into router-repeaters, which extends the wireless reach of each user in the network. With MeshLAN, a wireless LAN user who is out of range of an access point can hop through one or more users to create an extended connection.
