MeshNetworks Introduces MeshConnex™ Software Solution
Embedded Software and Developers Suite Delivers Mesh Networking Capabilities for Home, Enterprise, Sensor, Carrier and Telematics Markets

MAITLAND, FL - March 16, 2004 - MeshNetworks, Inc., an industry leader in the development and commercialization of mobile ad hoc networking solutions, today announced the release of MeshConnex™ software suite, an embedded software solution targeted at wireless OEMs. This new ad hoc networking software suite is a cross-platform, radio agnostic implementation of the company’s high-performance MeshNetworks Enabled Architecture (MEA™) technology. MEA technology is the most widely deployed solution of its kind and powers the largest commercial mobile ad hoc networks in the world. OEMs can now incorporate MeshNetworks’ patented and proven Multi-Hopping™ routing techniques into new and existing wireless devices. MeshConnex software is currently in beta testing, with general product availability scheduled for the second quarter of this year.

MeshConnex software delivers a rapid time-to-market and low risk solution. Using the MeshConnex Developers Kit (MeshDK™), developers can mesh enable industry standard radio technology to extend its ultimate range while increasing end-to-end throughput and overall system reliability.

MeshConnex software delivers MEA’s features and benefits in a portable, scalable software solution initially targeted for IEEE 802.xx based radio platforms. It offers support for multiple operating systems for simplified integration. High performance and tunable ad hoc routing technology make MeshConnex software ideal for applications ranging from personal area networks (PANs), to wide area mobile networks for mission critical homeland security communications.

“Mesh networking is a technology whose time has come. It helps to address many of the limitations in current wireless systems by offering symmetric high-speed data links and the fast deployment of a wireless IP network,” says X.J. Wang, senior analyst with Wireless Mobile Technologies practice for the Yankee Group. “The radio agnostic MeshConnex software suite is ideal for wireless OEMs targeting enterprise, public safety and consumer markets.”

All MeshNetworks products leverage self-forming, self-healing networking technology originally developed for the US military under DARPA directed programs. As a result, MeshConnex technology contains important capabilities not found in competitive solutions, including: high-speed mobility and hand-off support, dynamic bandwidth allocation (fairness), real-time congestion management, QoS, assignable user priority and proven scalability. MeshConnex technology features a small code footprint that optimizes processing resources. Its adaptive routing algorithm performs optimally for both large and small-scale fixed and mobile applications.

“We’re delighted MeshNetworks selected our 802.11a/b/g Access Point chipset as the MeshConnex reference and demonstration platform,” said Colin Macnab, vice president of marketing and business development at Atheros Communications (Nasdaq:ATHR). “Mesh networking can enable a host of interesting and new possibilities for Wi-Fi users, so we’re pleased to be working together to usher in this exciting technology to the market.”

MeshConnex embedded components include MeshConnex Core, an implementation of MeshNetworks’ ad hoc routing protocol, Mesh Scalable Routing (MSR), and MeshConnex Access, which provide additional functionality for incorporating MeshConnex Core with 802.1D bridging functions. MeshConnex technology supports high-speed mobility and low-latency routing, which makes it ideally suited for deployment in today’s mobile broadband applications and increasingly hostile RF environments.

“The IEEE 802.11 group has proven it is serious about kick-starting a mesh networking standard,” according to Peter Stanforth, Chief Technical Officer, MeshNetworks. “By supporting 802.xx wireless platforms, MeshNetworks can help accelerate the adoption of mesh architectures on these industry standard radio networks.”

MeshNetworks will be demonstrating MeshConnex technology running on the Atheros chipset and reference platform on March 16th and 17th at the Hilton Disney Resort where the IEEE meeting is being held in Kissimmee, FL.

About MeshNetworks
MeshNetworks delivers innovative mobile broadband network solutions based on patented ad hoc peer-to-peer technology. The Company's MeshNetworks Enabled Architecture (MEA™) technology provides wireless broadband connectivity to fixed, portable and mobile devices. Voice, video, data, telemetry and position-location are supported to specifically meet the needs of mission critical communications networks. MEA technology has been successfully deployed and is in use worldwide, most recently in Medford, Oregon and Garland, Texas, the home of a 57-square-mile mobile mesh system. A live network in Maitland, Florida, has been in continuous operation for over three years. MeshNetworks offers these solutions through OEMs, Systems Integrators, and Value Added Resellers.
