The Fiercest 15: Top WLAN Startups of 2003
February 04, 2003
Why It's Fierce: MeshNetworks extends the range of 802.11 and other types of networks by using ad hoc peer-to-peer routing technology. Unlike other mesh architectures, MeshNetworks' technology enables end-users to form a broadband wireless network among themselves, while seamlessly connecting to external networks such as the public switched telephone network, the Internet, and enterprise networks. Users can hop through other clients or wireless routers - greatly enhancing the utility of wireless networking. The company's technology is radio agnostic, and may be used with 802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g, Ultrawideband, WCDMA, OFDM, and other networks. Unlike some competitors, MeshNetworks' technology is available today, and it is relatively inexpensive.
What to Look for in 2003: MeshNetworks may be compared to Vivato, but there is room for both approaches to extending WLAN network ranges. Look for MeshNetworks to capitalize on its proven, low-cost technology, targeting OEMs, system integrators, and network operators.
