Mesh-Enabled Solutions for Emergency Response Agencies

At the incident site, Emergency Response agencies require robust and scalable incident management communications that can be deployed quickly and easily. However, an incident at a multi-story structure, or sprawling warehouse facility, can make reliable communications difficult. Locating and tracking personnel inside these buildings and other hazardous environments has also proven to be problematic.

Motorola has developed a self-forming, self-healing technology that automatically creates a wireless broadband network at an incident. No existing network infrastructure is needed. This network also offers built-in position location capabilities that do not rely on GPS satellites. This means that personnel can be instantly located - even inside multi-story buildings. Since it is also well suited for wide area networks, it provides an ideal replacement for CDPD and other cellular based data networks.

Benefits of a Motorola Mesh Network Solution

Instant Incident Network
Automatic networking enables Emergency Response agencies to instantly form a wireless broadband network at an incident. No existing network infrastructure is needed. When Mesh-Enabled devices are turned on and enter an incident location, they automatically form a wireless communications link between every other Mesh-Enabled device.

Born to Battle
Mesh-Enabled solutions are based on military-funded research designed to meet the requirements for battlefield communications where situation awareness is paramount. These solutions address the same tactical and hazardous challenges that Emergency Responders face on a daily basis.

Map, Track, Extract
By simply providing each First Responder with a small, lightweight Mesh-Enabled device in their coat pocket and drawing a quick map of the site on a PC or tablet at the Incident Center, the movement of these people can be graphically tracked in real time. Downed personnel can be quickly identified, located, and extracted from dangerous situations.

Advanced Command and Control
Incident commanders can now monitor First Responders' bio-signs, equipment status, and pass status in real-time. Motorola's broadband data rates also support environmental and hazmat sensor telemetry, live video feeds, voice messaging, and even downloading detailed blueprints of the incident site. These advanced capabilities increase situational awareness, so commanders can deploy and manage assets more efficiently and safely.

Emergency Response Applications for a Motorola Mesh Network Solution

Incident Communications
MEA technology enables broadband networks to form instantly, without any existing infrastructure. Every device becomes the network - forming a mesh of wireless broadband coverage on the scene.

Video Monitoring
Cameras can be quickly deployed to monitor the situation and progress of the response. Video from helicopters can be viewed at the incident, or remotely - increasing situational awareness and efficient resource deployment.

In-Building Location/Tracking
First Responders can be tracked in real-time using built-in position location technology. Location information can be displayed automatically on any computer, eliminating voice chatter for location checks.

Wide Area Geo-Location & Advanced Vehicle Location (AVL)
Wireless data connectivity and position location enable MEA devices to offer AVL functionality for a fraction of the cost of dedicated solutions. Two-way voice & video enhances communication and management capabilities beyond that of today’s AVL platforms.

Telemetry
Bio-indicators from First Responders can be wirelessly monitored to improve their safety and reduce injuries. Smoke, heat, gas, and other sensors can be deployed and wirelessly connected to a command center to provide an early warning of approaching danger.

Voice Back-Up
Voice over IP (VoIP) and voice messaging capabilities provide an emergency back-up to the primary voice radio system.
